5th May 2020

Dear Fellow Members,

We trust you all and your families are keeping well in these strange but very frightening times.  As you are aware, all rugby activities in the country are now closed down for the Season and we are unsure going forward as to when the new Season will commence.  The Club had been enjoying a very successful season on the field. The Senior Team having cemented 2nd place in the League with the prospect of a Home Semi-Final to come, the Thirds winning the Gleeson League and the Underage looking forward to the end of season cup competitions. Special mention for the under 12s whose tour to Barcelona has been postponed.  All that is now sadly a memory.

As indicated in the President’s letter, the fundraising efforts of the club have been drastically impacted by Covid 19 restrictions.  The Annual Golf outing for May has been postponed, the holding of the Autumn Internationals seems in doubt and the clubhouse can not be used until August as the earliest.  These were major sources of income to the club.   Therefore, we would encourage those who have the financial resources to make a contribution to the club. The amount will depend on your resources but as they say every little helps.  You can make that contribution either through the website (Web Link here) or direct to the club account. (details available on request, by email to the Hon.Secretary. e:

Whilst we are now in such uncertain and frankly very troubling times, life will with God’s help get back to normal.  Rugby will recommence and Garryowen as a Rugby Club and a community-oriented entity will again prosper and thrive.

Look after yourselves, your families, friends and neighbours.

 Yours in rugby,

Michael O’Connor
