Declan Madden Elected 135th President of IRFU

Congratulations to Declan Madden who was elected this evening as the 135th President of the IRFU. It is a great honour for Declan, his family, and the entire Garryowen community.

Declan joined Garryowen in 1973 on leaving St. Munchin’s College and won an All-Ireland League, Munster Senior and Junior Cups and a Gleeson League in his long-playing career.

After acting in several coaching and administrative roles within the club, Declan was appointed to the Munster Branch in 2007 and after holding several committee positions, he was appointed President of the Munster Branch in 2009/10. Declan joined the IRFU Committee in 2013 and became Chair of the IRFU Management Committee two years later in 2015, where he held this role until 2021/22 when he was appointed as Junior Vice President.

Everyone in Garryowen FC wishes Declan a very successful and enjoyable year in office, which is a testament to the long service and hard work which Declan has given to Garryowen, Munster and the IRFU.

We would also like to wish his wife Ger and their children Deirdre & David a most enjoyable year, and we look forward to welcoming everyone to Dooradoyle soon.
